Welcome to MoonDash Miniature Dachshunds
We are registered breeders of Purebred Miniature Dachshunds ethically breeding quality dogs for loving homes in a family environment.

About Us
We are home based breeders who breed long and short haired miniature dachshunds in a variety of colours and coat patterns for pet homes.
Our Puppies are bred from healthy purebred parent dogs. All of our adult dogs are IVDD clear and have all been genetically tested for genetic diseases such as PRA and SDMD as well as DNA, coat colours and traits. All of our breeding dogs are in optimum health and are regularly examined by our Vet.
All of our puppies are bred from Dogs that are treated as part of our home and family. They spend time with us both inside and outside in our large yard and they live sleep and eat with us. We love and adore all members of our little fur family. We have a genuine love for the Dachshund breed and we strive to produce well socialised, healthy, sound, happy puppies that have great temperaments.
Our dogs share our home and our lives. They are with us at all times and love being an important part of our daily routines. They have interaction with us throughout the day through work, play and training.
Our Health Practices
Our breeding dogs receive a comprehensive vet check every year, ensuring they are in tip-top health. More-so with our breeding girls, who are checked regularly and receive plenty of vet consultations during their pregnancy to ensure they are happy and healthy whilst carrying. All of our breeding dogs have been vet checked and DNA tested (with Orivet). When born, pups will stay in the whelping area in the family room with mum and are monitored 24/7, and are weighed daily for the first two weeks and then weekly thereafter, so we can track their development and ensure the healthy development of our puppies. Our puppies are wormed every two weeks from birth. At six weeks, our puppies receive their first vaccination and are microchipped. They also undergo a comprehensive health check with our vet , and we get a certificate of health at this time so you can be sure your puppy is in optimum health when they come to you. For those puppies that have been adopted by interstate families, our vet issues a fit-to-fly health certificate certifying the health of our travelling puppies. Diet-wise, pups are fed a mostly raw / human grade fresh food diet, combined with Royal Canin puppy and Blackhawk puppy Dry Food.
Socialisation Practices
Socialisation is a really important part of our breeding program. Our whole family plays a central role in raising our puppies. All of our dogs are an important part of our family and treated as such. They are not kept in pens or enclosures, and spend their days living and interacting with us and each other, both inside and outside our home. Our puppies are frequently being patted, cuddled, and snuggled. The pups also interact with the other dogs in our home, so they learn to respect the older dogs as well as not to be afraid of other animals they may encounter. We encourage our puppies to be independent, confident, outgoing and inquisitive, so we expose them to a range of household noises like TV, music, vacuum cleaner, garden equipment and much more. Once they are over 6 weeks, and have had their first vaccinations, they will also get to have some outdoor playtime with us where they can feel, touch and smell different things and surfaces (such as walking on concrete and grass) within our large secure yard. Our puppies all love play time whether with us individually or with their mother and siblings. They love to play with toys and we encourage safe play every day. We begin toilet training / pee pad and crate training while they are here and should have a solid introduction into the basics to ensure they are off to a great start when they leave us. We have found this helpful to their new families and will just need to be followed through. We use natural liver treats and lots of praise to reinforce positive behaviour with our puppies.
We adopt the Puppy Culture Program of Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) for all our puppies, which involves a range of activities from the day they are born. A lot of information on this program is available online.

Settling your puppy
As our puppies leave to begin their new lives with their lovely new families we get a lot of questions. We provide a lot of information in the puppys individual portfolio but we are always happy to answer questions.
Most questions are about settling the new puppy in, over the first few days. These are not silly questions at all, it's perfectly normal for a new pup to feel a bit unsure in their new environment, and for the new family to question am I doing this right?.
The important thing to remember is that they are babies who have only been alive for 8 weeks. Just like human babies they rely on you to teach them everything from their toileting to their behaviour.
They have just left their mother and their litter mates. Their new humans are different from us the breeders, and so is their new home. Different sounds smells and textures.
The key is always patience and consistency. Here are a few tips to help your little one settle in:
1. Give them a quiet, comfy place of their own where they can retreat and feel safe - a crate with their bed and a couple of their toys could be a good option. If a crate is not something you want to use then place their bed in a quiet corner away from main thoroughfares. if you have very small children always supervise them when playing with the puppy . Young children can be a little overwhelming when excited.
2. Maintain a regular routine of meals, potty breaks, playtimes, and naps. Consistency is a good thing and makes everything simple and easy to remember. Puppies almost always need to go potty as soon as they wake up or after they have eaten. Remember to reward their efforts with lots of praise. Just like human babies they will have accidents while training but consistency will make these less frequent.
3. Gradual exposure to new experiences and environments can also help build his confidence. Everyone is usually excited to meet your new addition and Im sure there will be an abundance of people wanting to give them cuddles, but take it slow, to avoid overwhelming them. We spend a lot of time with the puppies and as they are raised inside our home they are exposed to normal household noises from birth. Vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, televisions, washing machines, conversations and general clatter of everyday living.
It might take a little time for them to adjust to everything but each day you will see progress as they learn to adjust.
How do I get my puppy ?
We are happy to work with you to get the best solution to meeting and collecting your new puppy.
We support the following methods for getting your puppy to you safely and hassle free, this can be achieved by one of the following options:
In person puppy pick up. We love meeting our new families face to face.
2. Road transport with a reputable per transport company. We have previously used and recommend Dogmovers but we are happy for you to arrange one of your choice.
3. Domestic air travel by plane. We have sent puppies all over the country and have always used and entrusted Departure Pets with our precious cargo. This is the best option for puppies that have to travel a long distance as it is uch faster and less stressful on the puppy. We are happy to help arrange this for you.
